Sister Bridget - Annie Mathews

17 July 1858 - 24 September 1930

Annie Mathews was born in County Galway, Ireland on 17 July 1858.  She had an older sister Ellen who was born in 1853.

It is not known when Annie emigrated to New Zealand. 

On 31 May 1883 she entered the young community of the Sisters of St Joseph and was professed as Sister Bridget on 2 February 1886.  Her sister Ellen also entered the Congregation later in 1883, and was professed as Sister Rose

In later years two nieces, Sisters Casimir and Bernard Cleghorn, became Sisters of St Joseph, as did a grand-niece Sister Miriam Prior.

Sister Bridget died on 24 September 1930, and she was buried in the Heads Road Cemetery, Whanganui.
