Sister Dorothea Catherine McLaughlin

Catherine McLaughlin was born on 8 September 1895 to Mary Jane, nee Diamond, and John.  John was a labourer on the West Coast of the South Island.  Catherine had at least one younger sister, Rosanna. 

Catherine entered the Sisters of St Joseph on 4 July 1922, and was professed as Sister Dorothea on 24 January 1924.  Her sister Rosanna also entered the Sisters in 1924, and was professed as Sister Malachy.

Sister Dorothea died of tuberculosis on 20 June 1932, after only 8 years as a professed sister.  Her sister, Sister Malachy, became a most loved and hard-working member of the Sacred Heart Community in Whanganui for 32 years.

Sister Dorothea was buried in the Hastings Cemetery, Hawkes Bay.
