Sister Canice Annie Whittaker

Annie Whittaker was born in Rakaunui on 24 August 1901.

She entered the Sisters of St Joseph on 24 August 1920, and was professed as Sister Canice on 22 January 1922.

Sister Canice was a community and house sister in many Convents of the Sisters of St Joseph, including Waipukurau, Hastings, Hawera, Taihape, Waipawa, Plimmerton and Whanganui.
Sisters remembered Canice as a pleasant, gentle woman who always seemed to be smiling.  She did not keep the best of health.

Sister Canice died on 20 January 1959 in Belverdale Hosepital, Whanganui.  Mass of Requiem was celebrated in Sacred Heart Chapel and she was buried at Aramoho Cemetery.
