19 December 1890  -  13 May 1974

Mary Elizabeth Violet Frude was born in Hastings on 19 December 1890 to William Albert Frude and his wife Bridget nee Walsh.

Mary entered the Sisters of St Joseph in Whanganui on 23 January 1913, and was professed on 23 January 1915, taking the religious name of Sister Julian.

Sister Julian’s ministry was music, and she taught the piano to children in many of the Josephite Convents.  Her first appointment was Mangaweka, and from there she taught in Hawera, Ohakune, Patea, Hastings, Feilding, Waverley, Levin, and Plimmerton, returning to some places for a second time.  In 1970 she returned to Sacred Heart Convent, Whanganui.  In some places she also taught in the school.

Julian is remembered as a reserved Sister who lived her life with commitment to her congregational life and her ministry.
Sister Julian was a cousin of Josephite Sister Celestine Broome.

Sister Julian died on 13 May 1974.  Her Mass of Requiem was celebrated in the Sacred heart Chapel and she was buried in Aramoho Cemetery.
