Marjory Broome was born on 6 July 1899 to Kathrine, nee Walshe, of County Cork Ireland, and her husband Harold, a cabinet-maker from England.  She was sister to Kathleen who lived in Dunedin, Eric, Connie (Mrs Stiles), Molly (Mrs Cooper), and George all of Whanganui, Ila and Lorna.

On 30 December 1922, Marjory entered the Sisters of St Joseph community at Sacred Heart in Whanganui, but due to ill-health she left after having been received as a novice.
On 9 November 1926 she returned to do her novitiate training, and was professed as Sister Celestine on 22 January 1928.

Sr Celestine spent most of her years ministering as a house Sister, caring for the needs of Sisters and visiting parishioners in communities throughout the lower North Island.  She was often unwell, but is remembered for her kindness.

She was a cousin of Sister Julian Frude rsj.

Celestine died at Sacred Heart Convent Whanganui on 28 January 1975.  Requiem Mass was celebrated in the Chapel and she was buried at Aramoho Cemetery.
