Final Board Meeting July 2013

Friday 19th July 2013 was the date of the final meeting of the Congregational Trust Board of the Sisters of St Joseph Whanganui.   It was with some sadness that Sisters gathered with Board members and Managers to receive the annual reports for the year, but also to give thanks for what has been achieved by the present and past members of the Board.

A welcome to all from Board member Marie Skidmore rsj, was followed by one from Matthew Doyle, Chairperson, as he introduced the managers of the facilities.  The evening proceeded with a dinner during which the various reports were then presented.
A special feature of the evening was to welcome Colleen Keeble rsj and Don Ryan of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart who had travelled from Auckland for the occasion.

The first report was from Trish Boswell, Business and Finance Manager.  Trish presented very clear and accessible reports of the business matters for the previous year and then handed over to the Managers of the Facilities.

Nazareth Rest Home Manager Angela Aspinall brought all present up to date with Nazareth’s progress in the past year.  In her comments she noted the kitchen, laundry and cool-store project which was completed in May, and which is now functioning extremely well.
Angela also made mention of the new nursing team, the stable workforce, and continuing staff training.

Maureen Beard, Manager of Quinlan Court Retirement Complex, was the next to report.  Once again renovations were mentioned, as the dining room has now been altered to accommodate the higher needs of residents.  At the same time some alterations were made to the lounge and guest suite, and all these changes have been well received by residents.   Maureen also spoke of the strong relationship of Quinlan Court to Nazareth Rest Home - one that is reciprocal, and that both facilities hope to work on in the future.

Trish then presented a brief report on the Josephite Retreat Centre, speaking of its wide scope of use, catering for all the needs of the Congregation as well as needs of church, community and commercial sectors.
She also alluded to the popularity of the programme with steadily increasing attendances, and a diverse range of presenters.
Thanks were expressed to staff members, Pam Hopper, Jo Kennedy and Sue Linklater for their work, as well as to Coordinators, Programmes Group, and Trust Board for continued support.

Votes of thanks and presentations were then made by Board members Noelene Landrigan rsj, Kate Lynch and Catherine Shelton rsj to the Managers Maureen Beard, Angela Aspinall and Trish Boswell.

A heartfelt and glowing tribute to the Board members was given by past Board member Marie Roche rsj on behalf of the Sisters.  She outlined the history of the Board and the gifted people who had so generously served on it over the years.

The evening closed with karakia led by John Bosco Kendall rsj.
