Highlights of my travel - Noelene Landrigan rsj May- August 2013

In the months leading up to the celebration of Fusion of the Sisters of St Joseph of Nazareth, Whanganui, with The Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, I’ve been having “fusion experiences” with Josephites from around the world.

May 17th 2013 - Pilgrimage to Rome   “In the Footsteps of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop”

Central and Federation Sisters of St Joseph are indistinguishable in Rome!
Sr Monica Barlow and Sr Mary Ryan were our pilgrimage leaders. What a magnificent and resilient group of Josephites who took all difficulties and cultural differences in their stride.

June 2nd - Meeting the Irish Sisters at Roscrea

IMG 5332-001 2

I attended the Pre-Chapter gathering with the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, Ireland. What a wonderful welcome and hospitality from Eileen Kirby rsj in Dublin and from Margaret O’Sullivan and all the Sisters making a new life and mission in their home land. Someone lent Monica Cavanagh and me a car to have a trip around Tipperary and Clare before returning to Dublin.

June 23rd - Josephite Ecology Group meeting Temuka Convent, Mount Street, Sydney

Despite feeling the ‘flu coming on after the long flight back to Australia, I attended the meeting - although I probably shouldn’t have. There was great sharing between us about our different sabbatical experiences. We worked on some issues to present to the Chapter steering group before I returned to New Zealand, glad to be home again.

July 5th - Pre-Fusion meeting with Josephites in Whanganui

I was thrilled to share a meal with Sr Anne Derwin, Sr Colleen Keeble, Sr Lyndall Brown and our Whanganui Co-Ordinators during our preparation and anticipation of the Celebration of Fusion.

July 19th - Final Hui as Whanganui Josephites

IMG 6830

Before leaving for France we had our Pre-Chapter day with Therese Carroll rsj and the final gathering as Whanganui Josephites. After our morning liturgy we had fun together with a Josephite version of ‘Who wants to be a Millionaire’, before our celebratory lunch with tributes all
round. What a magnificent group of women!

31st July - The ruins of Montbel, Marist College near Hyéres, on the coast between Toulon and Nice

IMG 7750

This was the highlight of highlights for me of the trip to France! It took such effort to locate this treasure, but I was very moved to talk to locals whose ancestors has either worked there or been taught there. Julian was asked to write the dedication hymn to St Joseph and to play the organ for the opening Mass. In 1903 it was ransacked by French Revolutionaries and is now occupied in parts not completely burn out.

August 3rd – 12th - Seminar: “Josephite Charism in the Light of Evolutionary Cosmology” International Centre, Le Puy, France

IMG 8229

Global Josephites visit Bas-en-Basset, the birthplace of Jeanne Fontbonne, who chose Mother Saint John Fontbonne as her religious name. She re-founded the Lyon Institute after the French Revolution. The whole seminar was an insertion into the Global reality of Josephites joining from five Continents - and New Zealand for the first time!
