Sisters at School in Hastings August 2012

Senior students at St Joseph's School in Hastings were presented with St Mary MacKillop awards at a school Mass on the Feast of the Sacred Heart, June 15.   These badges, recognizing achievement in various aspects of school life, have been renamed after St Mary of the Cross Mackillop’s canonization last year.  This recognizes the connections with the Sisters of St Joseph Whanganui, who established the school.  School principal, Sandra Connor, says it is a visible way of acknowledging involvement in wider school events and communities.

Year 8 pupil, Bridget Sullivan, is seen here receiving three gold badges from Marlene Dunn rsj, herself a former pupil and staff member of St Joseph's.

On the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, 8 August, the Sisters joined with staff and pupils of St Joseph's School, Hastings, to celebrate the feast with a meaningful liturgy at Sacred Heart Church.   Bouquets were presented to Sisters Mary McCann, Marlene Dunn and Marie Therese Geor to acknowledge and honour their past and present involvement with staff and students.

Mary McCann rsj receives a bouquet from a senior pupil; Marie Geor rsj and Marlene Dunn rsj having just received theirs.  A shared luncheon with past pupils of St Joseph's followed.
