Post Investiture Gathering August 2011

Family members, Sisters of St Joseph, Prison work colleagues and friends gathered at Connelly Hall in Wellington on 19 August to celebrate with Marie Roche her reception of the Member of the Order of New Zealand Medal.  Marie had received her medal at Government House on 2 August with a small family group in attendance.

Tributes were paid to Marie from her family, her Sisters, Challenge 2000, Prison staff, friends, and from Archbishop John Dew.  All acknowledged the  energy, commitment and total dedication that she gives in her work as Prison Chaplain – not just to those within the walls but to their families as well.
Mention was made of her previous ministries in primary school teaching and at Challenge, both areas of her life where she gave herself wholeheartedly for others.

Marie in her response spoke of her love of her work. She acknowledged the place of her family in her life and formation and thanked everyone for their part in supporting and encouraging her - making light of the personal gifts and talents she takes to her role.

Marie is shown surrounded by members of her Josephite community – those who lived locally and those who had travelled to be with her.
