Aggregation Ceremony in Brisbane - October 2009

A special Eucharist was celebrated in Brisbane’s St Stephen’s Cathedral on 7th October 2009 to mark the Aggregation of the Sisters of Perpetual Adoration with the Central Sisters of St Joseph.  This date also was the 120th anniversary of the death of Fr Julian Tenison Woods, founder of the Sisters of Perpetual Adoration and co-founder of the Sisters of St Joseph.

Sisters Marie Roche and Yvonne Munro were the representatives of the Whanganui Josephites for this historic occasion.

During the Eucharist, Sister Anne Derwin, Congregational Leader of the Central Sisters of St Joseph was commissioned as Leader of the Sisters of Perpetual Adoration.  This Leadership role will be exercised as it is in the Sisters of St Joseph by the local Provincial in Queensland, currently Sister Moya Campbell.
The second aspect was called ‘The Ceremony of Aggregation’.  Here Anne Derwin publicly granted aggregation status to the Sisters of Perpetual Adoration and accepted the appointment by the Bishop to the office of Congregational Leader for herself and subsequent successors to the position of Congregation Leaders.  The Sisters of Perpetual Adoration then stood and together gave verbal assent to the Aggregation. The final formalising of the aggregation was the signing of documents by all parties – Bishop, RPA’s and Josephites.

Mass was followed by a gathering of friends, family and religious of the Diocese, along with representatives from each of the Federation branches of the Sisters of St Joseph.
