Srs Helen Doyle and Marcienne Waite were honoured on Saturday 14 March as they celebrated 50 years as Sisters of St Joseph.

The celebrations took the form of a picnic at Bason Reserve, just out of Whanganui, followed by a Liturgy at Mt St Joseph.  During the liturgy, Helen and Marcienne renewed their commitment to the Sisters of St Joseph, and were affirmed for their lives and ministries.
Later a Jubilee dinner was enjoyed and tributes were paid to each of them by the assembled Sisters, family and friends.

Helen Doyle formerly Sr Jane Frances, taught in Josephite Primary schools for 20 years.  She then moved into Hospital Chaplaincy and Medical Social work.  In later years she was the first manager of Quinlan Court Retirement Complex which she led for 7 years.  Helen now works as part of the team in the Congregations’ Archives, as well as being active in the Sisters’ Pastoral Care group.

Marcienne, formerly Sr Joseph, also taught in the Sisters’ primary schools around the region, and was a principal of several.  She volunteered for the Papua New Guinea Josephite Mission, and spent 4 years at Suain.  On returning to NZ, Marcienne took over Josophia Craft, which she still manages.  For the past 12 years Marcienne has also been involved with the Faith and Light community
