Investiture for Paula - August 2007

Thursday 30 August 2007 was a very special day for Sr Paula Brettkelly as she was present at Government House for her investiture as a  member of the New Zealand Order of Merit by  Governor General The Honourable Anand Satyanand.

Paula is shown to the right of the Honourable Anand and Mrs Satyanand, closely supported by members of her family, and representatives of her community of Sisters of St Joseph and friends.

Later that afternoon a gathering of Paula’s friends from all walks of life assembled at Connelly Hall to welcome her and congratulate her.
Mingling over drinks and supper were members of the extended Brettkelly family, Archbishop John Dew, Plimmerton parishioners, Sisters of St Joseph, Sisters of Mercy, Sisters of Compassion, Clergy, and representatives from the Human Rights Commission, members of the Gay and Lesbian community, and of the HIV Aids Foundation.  All were intent on wishing Paula well and really enjoyed the opportunity of meeting together on such a happy occasion.

At a short formal time during the evening, Paula’s brother Leo and her brother-in-law Paul Chalmers, warmly welcomed everyone and invited selected people to pay tribute to Paula.
Paula spoke briefly, thanking people for their presence and attributing her honour to the friendship and support of family, Sisters, and friends over the years
