Jubilee Celebrations - Mar 2006

Saturday March 18th 2006, was a ‘Golden’ day for Sisters Therese Devon, Chanel McNamara and Josepha O’Connor. Gathered with Sisters, family and friends, these women celebrated 50 years as professed Sisters of St Joseph of Nazareth.

The day began with Mass of Thanksgiving celebrated by Josepha’s nephew, Fr Gerard Burns. The venue of Sacred Heart Chapel, now not in the Sisters’ ownership, brought a certain poignancy to the group, but the rafters still rang with music and song.
A luncheon was then held in the former Villa Maria Hostel. The afternoon was filled with much conversation and laughter, and several appropriate songs with interesting reminiscences on past years.

Therese is now living in Whanganui, and is an accredited Rest Home visitor, as well as keeping in touch with many elderly and ‘shut-ins’.
Chanel also lives in Whanganui, and is much involved with helping recovering stroke victims both in Rest Homes and their own homes.
Josepha, living in Wellington, is part of the chaplaincy team at Arohata Women’s Prison, as well as helping out with Hospital and Rest Home chaplaincy in the area.
