Grotto Statue to Frankton - May 2005

On 14 May, Sisters John Bosco and Therese represented the Sisters at the opening of a new administration block and classrooms at St Columba’s Parish School in Frankton. The statue of Our Lady from the grotto at Sacred Heart was given in response to a request from the principal, Mrs Jan Pratt.

The statue is placed in the foyer of the new block, positioned on a rockface with a waterfall and pond. It has been restored by a local woman, with a great deal of care, as well as some professional advice. The many layers of paint, which had preserved it from the elements, were painstakingly removed and the original bronze colour matched as closely as possible.

A framed photograph of the statue in the grotto at SHC with its written history, was presented to the school by the Sisters.
