Chapter Gathering - September 2004

Sisters gathered at Mt St Joseph, Wanganui, over the days from Saturday 18 September to Wednesday 22 September for the culmination of their four yearly Chapter. Chapter launch was in March 2004, when the group chose their theme of Whaia te Pae Tawhiti – Journeying in Fullness of Life.

The recent gathering provided further opportunity for the group to deepen their understanding and commitment to their vision and values at this stage. The various aspects of the life of the group according to its shared leadership were reviewed and reassessed.

Some issues came to the fore in to which we hope to put our energy and focus for the near future. There was a call to depth and action our vision statement. The aspects of this that were highlighted particularly were the ways that we link in with other people and groups who hold similar vision and values, ecological justice, and a renewed call to live a life-giving bi-cultural partnership in our quest for fullness of life. It was recognised that our mission is dependent on our ‘common heart’, and emphasis was made of both honouring our individual diversities and supporting our life together.

Members of the newly formed Sisters of St Joseph Trust Board shared their understanding and commitment to the mission of the Sisters of St Joseph.

As part of the Chapter, a new group of coordinators of its shared leadership was chosen. They are Marie Roche, Marlene Dunn, Marie Skidmore and Liz Hickey. The Chapter was facilitated by Sister Jan Barnett of the Central Josephites, Australia.
