Nazareth Rest Home News

Farewell to Ingrid November 2011

A large crowd of residents, staff, volunteers, family and friends gathered on the last day of the month to farewell Clinical Nurse Leader Ingrid Johnson.  After 18 years of nursing at Nazareth Ingrid was finishing and also retiring from a long nursing career.

General Manager Angela Aspinall welcomed all, particularly Ingrid’s mother and family members.
Matthew Doyle, Director of Nazareth, thanked Ingrid for her nursing care, and wished her well in her retirement.
Angela spoke of her first contact with Ingrid through her mother who was a resident some years back. She told of the commitment and special relationship that existed between nurse and resident then, and the satisfaction that gave the family.  She had, since becoming Manager, seen that continue in Ingrid’s interaction with residents and their trust in her.
A glass crafted bowl made in Whanganui, and a watch were then presented to Ingrid in appreciation of her long and committed service.
Present staff members also presented Ingrid with a light-hearted gift of their own, along with a poem written for her.

Ingrid’s response for once found her almost wordless.  She thanked all present for their attendance and for the support of so many, and spoke of gratitude for  the years of her nursing ministry at Nazareth.

A blessing chosen for a nurse who cared for the physical needs of others was read by a number of present staff.

Finally, Ingrid was invited to cut a beautifully iced cake, and all present shared in afternoon tea.
Two former Managers, the Rest Home doctor and pharmacist, and many former staff, had also joined to share the occasion and show their appreciation for Ingrid and her commitment to, and care of Nazareth residents over the 18 years.
