Vive La France! June 2013

Every year at Nazareth we celebrate the Winter Solstice by studying a country for that month. We then have a lunch with food from that country.

This year we celebrated France. We have had lots of practice singing French songs, as well as movie morning with a documentary about France. One of our entertainers put on a ‘French’ morning and that was very good.

On the day of our celebration, the residents were treated to croissants for morning tea. We played a ‘Pass the Parcel’ game and everyone got a little something to put on, and then they had to answer a question.   If they didn’t know the answer, or got it wrong, all their team had to sing Frere Jacques. We then went to the TV lounge and watched several versions of the can- can while drinking mulled wine.

Both Audrey and Frances seem delighted with the items they were given to dress in!

The lunch of Coq au vin was followed by custard tarts and fruit.  Each resident found a little escargot on their spoon - which was actually just a marsh mellow! During the Happy Hour that followed we had French singer Lucy perform for us. She is only 16 years old and this was her first public performance - what a voice!

Ou la-la!  The staff looked very chic also!

Next year it will be “Arrivaderci Italia!”                Marion Grinstead
