Officially Open - June 2009

Sunday 21 June 2009 was the day for the official Naming, Blessing and Opening of the newly refurbished Nazareth.

Special guests joined the Nazareth residents, families, and staff and volunteers to bless and name the new wing, and to bless the various other areas which had been refurbished.

Staff member Karen Coleman, resident Joyce Nicol and volunteer Sr Chanel pause to bless the new courtyard of Aroha wing.

The new Wing has been named after Catherine Gaffney, of the Sisters of Perpetual Adoration who helped finance the project.  These Sisters presented a large photograph of Catherine which now graces the entrance to the Wing.

Before the official Opening Day, a Preview Day was held for volunteers, former staff members and health professionals.  Groups were shown around the new areas and then shared afternoon tea with residents and or staff.
The week after the Opening, an Open Day for friends, parishioners and service clubs meant more people coming in to see the new facilities.  Residents were most welcoming, some opening their rooms to be viewed by the visitors.
