Moving days - February 2009

The next stage in the building project was reached on Monday and Tuesday, 9 & 10th February, when residents from the upstairs Mary Wing were moved to their new en-suite rooms downstairs.  Some are now resident in the new Catherine Wing, while others are in the extension of Aroha Wing.  Staff were busy moving the furniture, and making up beds before residents came to the rooms which they had chosen.  All are very happy in their new situations, though some tree trimming is still to happen to maximize the wonderful views.

Residents and staff are shown during the simple blessing carried out on the days of the move.

The new wing is now known as Catherine Gaffney Wing, in honour of an Australian woman, who with the help of Fr Julian Tenison Woods founded the religious order of the Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Brisbane.  Julian Tenison Woods is also the founder of the Sisters of St Joseph. The Sisters of Perpetual Adoration have worked with the aged for many years and their generosity has enabled this project to be completed.
