Exploring Biculturalism March 2012

Staff and volunteers of Nazareth Rest Home, Quinlan Court, Josephite Retreat Centre, Josephite Archives and Josophia Craft made their annual gathering one featuring Biculturalism this year.  This wis seen as an essential aspect of the Sisters’ vision “Kii tonu te ao, me te orokohanga te tangata - Fullness of life for the earth and its peoples”.

The input was from Jillian Wychel and David James, both long time residents of Whanganui who have been active in social justice and adult education for many years.   Experienced in presenting Treaty of Waitangi workshops, they made the presentation clear, concise and for many, a revelation.  One participant was heard to say how angry she was that we had had so little of this information given us in our schooling.   For others there was a commitment to attend the Treaty of Waitangi workshop at the Josephite Retreat Centre later in the year.

The afternoon was completed with an afternoon tea for all and a message of grateful thanks to all for their care and service in the various ministries and facilities.

The first photo shows Jillian Wychel, Trish Boswell Business Manager, and David James.

In the second photo are Angela Aspinall Nazareth Manager, Anuoeska Saunders Nazareth Home Asssistant, and Karen Erueti Congregational Secretary.
